Pitbull Training Tips – Minimize Distractions
No CommentsOne mistake many people make when they are trying to train their pitbull to do something is that they train in an area with tons of distractions (like the park). This is not the ideal situation to begin training a behavior or skill.
Ideally, you start off in an area with minimal distractions. This means no other people, no other dogs, no other noises, no one else talking, no tv or radio in the background, no dog toys around etc, etc, etc. This way, your dog has nothing better to do than listen to you!
Once your dog gets consistent in performing the behavior you are training, SLOWLY add distractions to your training. In other words, don’t try going to a busy park next, maybe simply have another person stand in the room/yard with you while to train the behavior. Once your dog masters executing the behavior in that setting, you can have this person walking or moving around in the area while you ask your dog to perform the behavior. Gradually increase the amount of distraction under which you have your dog perform the behavior you want.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly your dog can catch on to something when you give him a fair chance.
